The Correspondent

Virginia Evans

Lovely book. Great writing. Sybil seems cold at first, but I think Virginia Evans does something quietly remarkable with her: she lets you into the interior of a life shaped by grief. Full stop. This was what the whole book is about for me. Grief, it turns out, can make people do strange and unexpected things, and I started to understand Sybil as the story unfolds.

I love how letters became her way of expressing herself, more than just a way to catch up. They were quite reflective. The last few letters were very emotional and wholesome in some ways.
